M package vs M5?
Whats the difference between sport package, M package and M5?
This guy for example has both sport package and M package, but doesn't have "M5" on the back and neither exhaust on both sides etc like M5 usually has: http://freemanmotor.com/autos/bmw-5-series-e13b0878-2/? Any other comments on this one? Seems quite pricy for odometer and battery has been replaced twice. Not sure how bad that is Thanks |

When they say M package is the front and Rear bumper of the M5 and the sis skirt . Thwarts all . Not the engine as the m5 . I just took a look at the 2008 550i M packages for $ 25,899 that you are talking about my friend don't pay this kind of money too expensive his asking way to much money for that cars . I would pay more then $ 18,000 . My dad owns a car dealer here in New York that's why I know .

I've been wondering about that myself: In my *many* searches for an E60 M5, I've run across several "2006 Custom M5" postings that turned out to be nothing more than a 525i with the M package. But, that got me thinking about what that actually meant.
I hit the BMWUSA page yesterday, configured a 5 series machine and sure enough the M package is listed. I was semi-excited thinking //maybe// it offered up some sort of performance 'upgrade' but no: just some tires and visual changes. (All show - no go) Almandee26, thanks for clearing that up! |

I dissagree with all show, no go. The M Package looks much more sporty and aggressive than the sport package, inside and outside. Take a 535i or Xi with the N54 engine and modify it's software, and it will go very fast. The 2WD MSport comes with sport suspension. The XDrive MSport comes with the standard suspension, so it doesnt handle as well. Best choice for the north is a 535i XDrive, MSport, with a 6 speed manual tranny and a good software remap. Will be very fast and will out accelerate an M5 in rain or snow. Will accelerate pretty close in the dry also.

I want to apologize as looking back, I realize that my statement probably sounded like I was putting the 5 Series/M Package down, and I really didn't mean for it to come off that way. Sorry if anyone took offense. I meant it more as a question more than anything else. Second, that's actually very useful information. I've read a number of threads where folks commented on driving the M5 in the snow. I won't be driving foolishly, but I really like that option. I heard that the N54 was a great platform, but again, this is all new to me. Thanks again for the feedback & correction |

N54 is very tuneable. Mine has a quad remus exhaust setup, Dinan stage 2, and 19 inch style 313 BMW performance wheels. It looks great and is a real rocket in snow, rain, or shine..

Re M5 V10,.M5 = Rear wheel drive = nightmare where i live in Montreal. My M-Sport is AWD. I would have bought the M5 if it was AWD.

I'm wondering about your 16 year old comment yet you have black wheels on your m3 Soo you obviously still mod, those did not come Oem..maybe an option from the factory but you still opted for them, so you must still have that teenager inside of you...embrace it don't fight it. I'm just sayin |

Ezio, what planet are you from?? Before you judge and put your foot in your mouth, read the posts carefuly. However, we are all off topic from the original question of this post. Did the originator of the post ever make a decision?
