Question regarding a 535i purchase
I found a 2009 (non BMW dealer shows it to be a 2010 but it is the incorrect body style) BMW with sports package and only 29,341 miles. Dealership says the title is printed with LEMON BUYBACK on it but is in great condition, as the pictures provided also show. What would the hesitation be on buying this? Asking price is $29,000.

what are the options? Make sure engine was cared for and it has the options u want. Many choices available so dont be pressured if it is not exactly what u want.

It seems to, just concerned in what the lemon buy back means and what it can do to the value asking price and what might have been wrong with the car. How do you find out why it was a lemon?

Get the VIN no., bring it to any BMW dealer and ask them to give you a print-out of the service history of the car.

Talked to a dealer yesterday. Seems the issue was fuel injectors and fuel pump, that was the reason for the buy back, but all was covered under the warranty. I don't think I would have unloaded the car if it was me. Still considering the car. Warranty is until Jan 2014 and I could get an extended maintenance to 6 years 100,000 miles. Thoughts?

It would be nice to get a readout of the stored faults. Check if any cylinder misfires were recorded. If clear, should be ok. If there are misfires, could be faulty engine control unit. Many dealers change coils, injectors, fuel pump for nothing.

Take it for a test drive and let the motor warm up. Then cruise at a steady speed for a couple of miles. See if you feel any engine misfires. If smooth, should be fine. If there is a mild jerkiness from misfires, then it's probably the engine control unit. It is under warranty. Hard for dealers to detect this and they therefore change all the wrong parts and the problem still persists. Intermittant issue and only occurrs when the motor is fully warmed up when running. Dealer takes a short test drive and doesnt see issue and thinks that it's fixed. Customer gets fed up and returns under lemon law when could have been easily addressed. From what has been changed on this vehicle, it looks like this may be the case.
