That being said remember the Q3s from the China race (from memory) where everyone in the top 10 shootout went out and did 1 lap only with VET and BUT not setting times for different reasons.

In agreement that the impact of trying to even out the field by introducing tyre degradation and the consequent result of drivers (and car) not being pushed to their limits isn't ideal.

Agree! In the current form of F1, we definitely need qualifying tires!
Watching dead track for 5 minutes in Q3 is dreadful.

so when is this FIA tribunal supposed to strike down with great vengeance and furious anger on AMG and Pirelli? oh oh looks like Ferrari is in the hot seat now too

Ferrari will argue their testing was done for the benefit of Pirelli using an old chasis. Hard to see how it might have significantly helped their current effort, at least not as directly as it seems to have helped Mercedes. If Mercedes was testing with their current cars, then they will get penalized though I don't know how. What do they do, fine them? deduct constructor's points? make them sit out a race?
