Shingles Vaccine
Anyone here get it ? How were the after effects if any ?
Buddy caught shingles and has told us it was weeks of miserable pain and that we should get the shingles vaccine. I never had chicken pox and growing up my Mom always stuck me with other kids who had it so I’d get it over with as a kid. Guess I’m immune. Wonder if that transfers to the shingles. Wife signed up for it, I’m considering it. What about you ? |

Got the vax (it's 2 shots separated over 3-6 months); the first made my shoulder sore (might have set my personal record for sore shoulder). The second knocked me on my tail for about a day and a half. I had been told by others to expect that, and they were correct!

I took the vaccine as soon as I was available. No adverse effects.
You don't want to experience a bout of shingles. If you never had chicken pox then you won't have shingles but you can still catch chicken pox. https://www.cdc.gov/shingles/ Last edited by omasou; 11-05-2021 at 03:04 PM.. |

Those commercials are doing their job. I too worry about the uncertainty of the shingles.

I don't think I knew they had a vax? Shingles is in the Herpes family and I didn't think they had a cure/vax for those. I wonder if this works on the entire family (Shingles, Chicken Pox, Herpes, etc) or just the shingles variant?
With 75% of the world carrying one of those - I'd say this would be a game changer if it did them all.

I got my second jab yesterday afternoon. Arm was pretty sore last night but feels better today. Got my first one 3 months ago. From what I know about shingles getting these vaccines was a no brainer for me, as mentioned above. Don't want to get shingles. Don't want to take that chance and there's no reason to because this vaccine is available.

I have had shingles about 15 years ago, and got the vaccine about 5 years ago. I never had any issue with the vaccine.
If you have had chicken pox, you can get shingles. It’s the same virus that sits in a nerve root. Apparently wherever your shingles appears, you will always get it if it flares again. Luckily I had it on my upper chest and under my arm on my right side. Mine was “mild”, but it still felt like I had a thousand wood slivers that with any movement of my shirt, causes them to wiggle. Not fun, but better than getting it in your face or eye.

CDC recommends that healthy adults 50 years and older get two doses of the shingles vaccine called Shingrix (recombinant zoster vaccine), separated by 2 to 6 months, to prevent shingles and the complications from the disease.
That's good enough for me. Lets not ruin this thread, okay? |

Dunno what the age is for this, but I will probably get it when I grow up. My mother in law had it and so did her brother and it was not pretty. |

The original shingles vaccine only lasted about 7 years and did not provide coverage beyond that. They probably don't have a lot of data on Shingrix and its long term benefit but I'd be willing to bet it wouldn't last either.
I'd rather strengthen my immune system so I don't ever get shingles. |

I met someone who had the 1st shingles vaccine and contracted shingles years later.
He is still experiencing neurological problems(few years now) as well as the persistent rash. He was a professor and now has trouble thinking straight. He is largely dependent on his wife. It has a huge impact on his daily life. I happened to turn 60 around the same time I met him and got the vaccine weeks later. Soreness at the injection site and minor flu like symptoms for 1 day. |

I had a girlfriend get shingles (only in 30s but on an immune suppressant for a autoimmune disorder) and Ill be getting it when I qualify and getting my booster.
She had this horrible infection right on her spine that made her miserable and unable to sleep for a long time. And even after that there was some obvious nerve damage because she said that area constantly itched/tingled when something touched it. |
