Lightbulb Lucid Gravity

Well of course they had to offer a SUV!

From this video and their own website, it appears to be quite impressive. I like the Styling, the range is phenomenal @ 450 miles, it has plenty of Luxury, and Utility. And has a adult usable third row. Not that I'm in the market for this type of vehicle. But I appreciate and welcome competition.
840hp - 0-60 3.4sec
$80k - $95k is actually a Bargain all things being considered.

Yeah, but if you charge exclusively at public charging, drive cross-country weekly and live where the temperature is 110 degrees for six months and -10 for the other six, it is a horrible choice! Fuggitabout using it at a road course.

I figured we should just get that out of the way and save some time on the bickering.

Being more interested in sedans, I looked at Air available in my area and was very impressed and surprised by what you can get for the money. Lucid Air Touring looks like a sweet spot. 620 HP, 425 mile range, DreamDrivePro, Surreal Sound Pro, used under 10K miles for under $60K.

At what point does a SUV get so low that is becomes a station wagon again? lol

I had the Air Grand Touring and it lived up to what they said. I would not have given it up had the charging network in the Southeast been adequate. I believe they are changing the port on the Air (maybe including an adapter) and have changed it on the gravity so that it can use certain Tesla fast chargers. That will change the calculus at some point. My problem wasn't with Lucid, it was with Electrify America, not enough stations, not enough chargers at each station, poor charger reliability and poor charger performance (would rarely get about 200 when charger said 350, even when car was down at 10%). My range was typically between 420 and 450 without trying to hypermile and trying to keep it under 80mph. You could get 500 on the Air GT if you kept the speed down to 70 in most conditions.

The temp differences, although important, were never really much of a consideration for me. I am not sure who in their right mind would consider an all EV without at-home charging. That was never in my consideration. As such, I have a charger now and my wife's next vehicle will be a PHEV.

The Air was better than my BMW M5 it replaced (more comfortable, quiet, faster straight line) and I would still have it today if not for external factors. It has the same exterior dimensions as my M5 and interior space as my older BMW Alpina B7. I could take the car from Charlotte to Chapel Hill roundtrip without charging and could take it to Atlanta round trip, stopping for around 30 minutes to charge. The real problem was the charging environment for me and that can be mitigated based on use case. Only service after the first month (delivery related) was the one-year service. All done in my garage at home.

Where is the temp 110 for six months and -10 for the other six months? Not sure I would live there anyway.

The Gravity reminds my of the Audi Q7 and a few other "SUV's".

Thanks for the excellent feedback. The temp comment was facetious, based on people always commenting that range is diminished under severe weather situations. True, in some cases, but always overemphasized IMO.

Lucid is the only EV company I would consider for multiple reasons.

A Tesla Plaid, Lucid Air Grand Touring or Sapphire, or Porsche Taycan Turbo S are the only EVs I would consider, for their combination of performance and range. A used Plaid is $60k now; the Lucids are $180-250k new.

I see loaded 2025 Grand Tourings with 819 HP, AWD, 512 mile range, 3 sec 0-60 for $120K. That might include incentives. 2025 Grand Touring starts at $110,900.

New Air Tourings with 620 HP, 419 range and all the goodies are $80K or less.

The Lucid sedan is the only one that has piqued my interest yet. Interior and exterior styling looks impressive.

Absolutely love Lucid’s naming convention - Gravity... because at ~6,300 lbs, it’s so heavy it creates its own gravitational field. If they ever build a pickup, they should call it Black Hole, because it will be so heavy, it will distort the space-time continuum and it will have acceleration under 0.0 seconds, because every time you accelerate, it will go backwards in time...

Then what does a Ford Excursion do?

Yeah, me too. Just last month the Pure was able to be had for just north of $60K. That's reasonable money for what the Lucid Air offers. If I didn't already have 5 cars...

Why not an Audi Etron GT? It's basically a Taycon anyway, but I think it looks better and is less expensive.

I like the Lucid's too, but too expensive. And there's no way I would buy that SUV with that hideous dash.

Another heavy one, but in the Ford Excursion’s defense, it was built as a heavy-duty SUV capable of up to 11,000 lbs of towing capacity. The Lucid Gravity has a towing capacity of up to 6,000 lbs.

What I don't understand is why it doesn't offer the 1000+ HP the sedan version does.

And if every excursion was towing something, that would make sense.

It is true that they are heavy, mostly because they have big battery packs. They seem to manage well with that, and it makes their charge times a bit more impressive. Claimed 200 miles of range in 12 minutes.

Imaging how things change if battery weights come down substantially. The same power at 1000 lbs less? Interesting times.

Somehow daily driving a heavy truck, to tow occasionally, doesn't trigger the whole, "yeah, but" crowd. Yet, daily driving an EV triggers them to point out the circumstances where EVs aren't optimal. Even when daily driving is the main use case for an EV, where towing is not the primary use case for most trucks. Seems very selective.

A friend of mine has a large truck, a massive 5th wheel, and runs a contracting company, makes perfect sense to me. Many people never drive their cars more than 50 miles a day and would charge almost exclusively at home. What makes sense for them? Should they consider weather patterns in Siberia, when choosing? Charging stations in Utah? lol

Are we getting back to the "pickup trucks not driving around with a full bed all the time as wasteful" thing?

I hope I am not triggering people that I have on ignore.

Certain folks whole purpose seems to be to criticize, I find it unpleasant.
No interest in engaging.
