fun factor E92 manual or F80 manual?

I'm making the switch from a E92 manual to a F80 manual. I'm very nervous that the F80 will not be as fun as my current E92. Should I worry? My F80 is ordered ready maybe in September .

I came from a 2013 E92 6MT and I now have an F80 6MT. This six-speed transmission takes a complete donkey pile ALL over the E92 one. Do not worry; keep your order. You'll thank me later. It's way more concise and doesn't have that sloppy of a throw.

I've driven the e92 m3 as a manual. It is my dream car and my sons would probably love me if i got one.

With any objectivity, F8x is better. Manual is better, torque, power, the seats, hell, list is a long one.

For a five year old, E9x, for us who have to haul those brats around: F8X.

They're comparing it to the E9x 335i not E9x. For M3 vs M4 they are both fun, it's just a different experience. Having put about 300 miles on a borrowed M4 (and who says M3 drivers don't have friends ) I can say that the M4 feels bigger and floaty compared to the E9x. The powerband feels much like a tuned 335i with lots of low end torque. So the M4, it's ready to go all the time and faster. You're not forced to downshift and rev it up like the E9x M3 to get torque. Depends on your driving style if that takes away the fun. The V8 sounds like pure sex, the N55...well it's a sore spot for a lot of people. Not trying to be a hater. Steering is less communicative in the M4 due to the electronic steering. The shifter is less notchy in the new one tho.

All in all, it's a fun car and is still better than 99% of the stuff on the road, get the car you want and drive it the way it's meant to be

Your the first person I've run into that prefers the E9X. Test drove one when I owned my E46 M3 and hated it. Heavy as an Audi/MB and the worst exterior and interior to ever grace the M3 badge. (In my opinion) Test drove an F80 and ordered one immediately.

6MT feels a bit rubbery and notchy in this car, but almost all BMWs have a rubbery feel. I personally like the notchiness (is that a word?). However, it is a fantastic car to drive in a manual. I drove a 335i with a manual and I did not like it. I love the F80 6MT

then why the hell did you switch to F80 if you are not sure if it is going to be a better car

I literally just made a post about skipping the E9X generation in light of how it felt compared to the E46.

But yeah I guess most people just want whatever is new.

That's because he's owned his E90 M3 for a month, and he drank the Koolaid on the E9X board. I'd bet he's never sat in an F8X, much less driven one. If you don't have facts to back you up, depend on emotion. Pretty transparent.

E46 M3 was pretty sick I must say. I've got a sore sport for NA motors honestly. Nostalgia for a dying breed maybe? Plus the intake sound when it's at 8000 RPM makes me feel like I'm a F1 driver

Strangely enough I didn't like the E90 when it was first released. I thought BMW was trying to make a S4/C63 knockoff by using the V8. And I thought the styling was bad, the interior not as nice as the E46, and I SWORE I'd never buy a car w/o a dipstick. But as soon as I got behind the wheel all that faded away. The F80 is a different car than the E9x. I didn't get that feeling the first time I drove one. With every generation of the M3 BMW moves more towards a livable sports car and less of a track monster. I think the F80 is a much better choice for a daily driver than the E9x just as each generation of M3 was. I'm sure this broadens the market. As an anecdote: my dentist has a E92 which he traded in for a 335i because it was too stiff and he hated getting gas 2x a week.

In the end buying a sports car like this is all about emotions, otherwise I'd just buy a Prius or something "practical".

Nah I've driven every generation of M3 over the years. I've wanted a E90 M3 for a few years and bought one once I've gotten to the point in my life where I can drive something nice and not feel fiscally stressed. F8X isn't a bad platform. I never meant to go on here like some people and hate on your cars. Hell, when it's time for a new car I'd definitively consider one.

The E92 is a great value right now. It's just kind of a weird M3 considering it has a V8 that makes little to no torque for its weight, and hates fuel economy. It aged quicker than the E46 did too.

That being said its a cool car, just not better than an F8X in any measurable way outside of stock exhaust note. (As to be expected when comparing an NA V8 and a I6 filtered through two turbos)

If I'm being completely honest, the 6MT in my f80 feels just marginally better than my e92 M3 did. Apples to apples. Clutch, rubbery feel, engagement points are similar. I definitely like the shorter throws in the f80 better.

But ... the rev match takes it to a completely different level. In that regards, donkey pile sounds about right.

Interesting. I loved the 6MT in my 335i a lot! The only difference I would say is the clutch was a bit lighter in the f30.

There is not one iota of float in an M3. I had it on an auto cross in COMFORT and did not notice excessive body movement.

No idea how on earth anyone would find the M3 floaty.

Lol! Yup! Maybe floaty compared to a ... Dog sled? Horse carriage? Rollerblades? It's possible.
