I've read the books and watch the show. The show does a great job with the original material. I foresee problems ahead though. Books 3-5 were nowhere as good as books 1 and 2. The pacing slows, a massive amount of additional plots splinter off and the author has a difficult time progressing the narrative. Book 3 is slower than 1 and 2? Maybe you need to go back and reread it.

There is so much packed into Book 3 that they are splitting it into two seasons for the HBO series.
