I can appreciate that. This is why there is alcohol! By stating this, I do not mean go pick up chicks at a bar, internet dating will yield the same results and is less expensive. I found my current girlfriend as she used to be friends with my ex-wife years ago. Her husband and her divorced and we just started talking. We aren't looking to move in together or get married, probably ever, but it works for now.
Going up to random chicks and starting a conversation trying to get a date will not work in most cases. My greatest success has always been in mutual acquaintances of people I already know. (former co-workers, friends and oddly enough friends of ex's as they are curious about what they've heard.)
