I am on the lookout for an E61 myself (let me know if you see any clean low-mileage '10 535xi w/ the multi contour seats and sport steering wheel!) and I had the same question while evaluating vehicles. I compiled this list from other forums and information I found online:
- valve cover, oil filter housing and oil pan gaskets
- carbon deposits in the intake
- water pump failure
- rear hatch hydraulic failure
- sunroof drain failure / water leak damage
- air suspension failure
- coils and plugs
- brake light grounding
