It is not absolutely true that the m5 can not be updated to competition, indeed the upgrade can be progressive, depends on how much comfort you want to lose ... I have personally analyzed with the bmw workshop the different parts and the identical ones. In another post I made the list, apart from the rear torsion bar and springs and front shock absorber (+ camber) nothing else significant for the trim!
