Llama & Great Pyrenees photos taken today:
1) female Cocoa Puff (age 23), gelded male Comet (age 18) and Great Pyrenees Ziggy
2) gelded male Thunder (age 18)
3) Cocoa Puff and older sister Oreo Cookie (age 25); Oreo Cookie is very thin and I think she may be going blind as well.
Llama facts:
-- Llamas have front teeth on the bottom only and they stick out at a 45 degree angle -- an orthodontist's dream! But it works for them.
-- Females have a 50 week gestation period. They nurse the cria (baby llama) for six months. Optimally, two weeks (!) after giving birth, they get pregnant again. Therefore, for five and a half months, they are eating for three: themselves, the nursing cria and the fetus. Our last cria was born in 2009 -- photo of cria and mom Cocoa Puff attached.
