Correct. You must have orders to an overseas location. I believe you can also take advantage of the program if you're stationed in say, Iraq, but it's delivered stateside and you of course have to pay tax. Accepting it overseas you're exempted from paying duty. Also, your DEROS has to be far enough out that you'll have the car for at least 6 months when it's delivered before your DEROS date. So basically once you order you have to have at least a year left in country otherwise they won't let you buy it. If you have orders or paperwork with less time you can still get it to work, but you just need basically a letter of employment stating intent to extend your contract / DEROS / Orders.

I used to fly OH-58D Kiowa Warriors for the Army. I chose them over the AH-64 Apache.
