OP: I can't fault someone for wanting to get something different as they get older. But you're going from something moderately sporty to flat out boring. I don't think getting something more compliant and easier to get into equals dull and boring. All those vehicles you listed would be perfectly fine for my wife who has no interest in vehicles and just wants something that sits up high.

I'm not going to speak about price, but if you're a car guy and want to still have something that at least a little interesting, why not (new or used):
Any X3 you can afford with an I6 turbo
X5
Macan S/GTS/Turbo
Cayanne (regular, S, GTS)
New Land Rover Defender
Upcoming Ford Bronco
Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk (V6, diesel, or V8)
Kia Stinger
Any of the Genesis offerings
Lexus GS-F
Any current Volvo


I' sure there are other options to consider, but the point being that there are a myriad of ways to get into something a little smoother with at least a little bit of style.
