Depending on where your fail point is, partial deadlifts may be good as well! Do you struggle more at the bottom, or locking out?
Definitely at the bottom, the initial jerk.

Once I have it past my knees- it's easy lifting. I've yet to clip a lock out.

But countless "failures" to even move the weight beyond a few inches. That's why I think you're right that the deficit deadlifts will help out.
