i have a paint gauge and the paint on the M2 is about 3.5-4.5 mil. thats about what all cars are today .This includes the primer base coat and clear coat. A human hair is 3-4 mil (.003-.004")thick,paints used to be 7-8 mil . on porsche the PTS colors are 7-8 mil because there painted off line. my GT4 (yellow) is 3.7-5 mil . More important than the the thickness is the elasticity of the paint. The old lacquers were very brittle the solvent based enamels were much softer. now all paints are water based and don't hold up very well. carl
