This is something that can be improved with time and effort. You don't even need to spend a ton of money on this, a lot is solved simply with experience. On the other hand, figuring out how to build electric motors with the same characteristics Tesla has achieved, is not trivial at all. (See some of Munro's interview for details.)

I don't understand how the $75K price level is relevant to Tesla cars in 2019. The average sales price across their fleet is way lower (spitballing - probably $55K or so), and it keeps going down, fast.
