Quick question- I'm looking to purchase an e61 with the n54 and was about to leave to buy it today, but the guy said he took it for a ride and it started steaming and there was coolant all over the engine bay. He says no lights came on for this issue, which leads me to believe that it isn't an overheating issue? He sent me a picture and it looks like it most likely got on the headers and burnt off creating smoke, not from overheating. But he also said he could hear the fan going pretty good and that he let it cool for an hour, added coolant, and was able to drive home 30 min.
This car is pretty cheap but I am worried that it could be a head gasket or something. Any ideas what the issue could be?
water pump, expansion tank crack, coolant line crack or similar, head gasket.
I just want to know what I'm getting into. The car is 1.5 hour from me and I planned on driving it home, but not if I have to take an hour break every 30 minutes.
