Said differently, the new standard BMW drivetrain is electric hybrid. 
Weird, huh? Did everybody know about this except me?  Am I interpreting this wrong??

Not surprised in one bit. As I've been saying for years, millions of euros in Govt EV development subsidies come with strings.
Look for Mercedes to follow suit.
