The math is different for every car. We've had great luck buying a end of year clearance model and then trading it in after a few years. We've also had great luck buying used sports cars with rare options then selling a few years later for near what we paid.
A brand new Luxury car looses 40-50% value in the first 2 years, IF you paid full msrp.
