Mine is a similar age/mileage. Other than changing the fluid, I haven't had any issues with the TC or the PS for that matter. While you're there, you might as well change the differential oils, too as they are likely original.
I used the stopper method of changing the TC oil through the drain... you'll understand what I mean when you research the DIYs. Trying to fill it from the actual fill plug is a huge PITA.
