I too felt the same way, but after a few desk dives and hairline scratches, I think it's part of the charm. Why buy a watch to just stare at it? Wear the hell out of it for a few years, and get a full polish/service and it'll look like new. Unfortunately, those overhauls cost at least $500-1500... dagger.
I look at these watches the same way i look at Rimowas... Pretty as all hell when they're new, but one trip overseas and those suitcases take a beating. But, it's all part of the charm and adds some character to it.
You won't be disappointed with a Panny - the size, weight, etc... Love that crown protector
