I think Lexus has given up trying to compete directly with the Germans. The killing of the GS tells me that.
But the IS with a straight six might be a good cruiser which is more of the target audience for Lexus. Lexus sells enough cars, at least in the US, that it doesn't need to compete directly with the Germans; it has its own very profitable place.
