He goes galivanting about on the farm. Usually he is chasing rabbits, raccoons, deer, coyote or possum. Sometimes finding him is impossible.
If one of these were on his collar how exact or close would it pinpoint him?

Apple claims battery life of over a year and you can replace it. However my understanding is it works by connecting via bluetooth to other apple devices that pass close to it. It uses these devices to calculate it's location. So if you dog is in the middle of nowhere and is unlikely to run into any iphones then it wont work. Probably better off with something that actively tracks with built in GPS.
