I was using my Metabones with the 500/f4 and it got really slow and unreliable with the 1.4x and close to unuseable with the 2.0x. That's old data, since I sold my big Canon two or three months ago and Metabones has probably updated their firmware since I last tried.
The Sony 400/f2.8 is incredible with either teleconverter, but it starts with a big aperture AND Sony updated the body firmware to maximize effectiveness of that lens.
