The average price of a Swiss watch (exported) was ~$750 in 2013 and 2014, and that suggests that ~$1500 is about what as much as a typical (non-watchie) consumer wants to spend. So with non-watch junkies as my primary target audience, that's why I chose the price range I did for the thread.
(I realize you weren't being critical of the range I designated. Or at least I don't think you were.)
