I understand that the (electric) water pump fails about every 80,000 miles. Mine did exactly that about 6 months ago and had the same symptoms as you describe. The engine would be hot though, not doing this from a cold start.
Don't drive it beyond a mile or two to a repair shop. Or better still, have it towed - I called AAA and had it towed to the dealer.

PS I do think you can do the water pump replacement yourself. I think mine was $800 at the dealership but I can't recall the exact price
