OEM foglights have a much warmer colour temperature and should be very easy to notice the yellow colour when they're switched on. Cornering light in comparison has the same tint as the headlight beam (cool white with a slight blue tint). It also has a much better range and brightness compared to the fog lights.
RE BMW's text, I'm convinced they use psychological torture experts and dodgy politicians to compile and proof read their text. I don't think I've ever read anything in their brochures and on their websites that didn't make me ask myself "WTF did I just read" afterwards!
