While I agree with the candyass Russian OP that the automakers should have to present a clear, concise and workable plan for a return to profitability, it irks me to no end that a majority of people I hear comment on the issue are of the opinion that the automakers should be left to fail.

To those people I ask this: What did the automakers do to that caused their current situation that was WORSE than what the Banks, Mortgage Brokers and rating agencies did to create the financial crisis? How do you designate one as "worthwhile to save" and let the other one die?

Were the big three irresponsible in product planning and development? YES
Were the big three slow to react to market decisions? YES
Were the big three irresponsible in regards to extension of credit? YES

But if you are bailing out the banks...you best be bailing out the automakers as well.

The taxpayers are going to be on the short end of the stick no matter if you save them or let them die. Therefore, we might as well pick the poison that allows some innocent people to save thier jobs and livlihoods.
