Ok. After much thinking through the process of elimination, I have to say season 4. The primary reason is the death of Joffrey. He was such a detestable character that it almost makes any other season an automatic second in rank. Jack Gleeson killed it as an actor. He made Joffrey an absolute craven monster and so completely hateable with nary a positive characteristic.
