On the contrary, social media has allowed them more information than ever before. The last 2 years is the first time in my life that I can recall pretty much every adult having some interest and opinion about social welfare and politics in the US. This is made very apparent on social media. Companies like pepsi have noticed, and the boldest have tried to use this "new" interest as a platform for selling product. Obviously a risky move when it comes to something like politics.
