I have also lived in Ft. Mill and Rock Hill....and they were nice. Charlotte is decent but traffic is starting to get crazy because of the ongoing road work.
As for Southern hospitality.....that is more lower part of the state...and still some upper part of the states although it's disappearing quickly up here!

Yeah, we lived in south Charlotte for the past 12 years - Steele Creek and Pineville - just moved back to home to MI in Jan.
