I've been playing around with it on my iphone X for a while. The measuring is only accurate on flat surfaces or measuing in 2 dimensions. It has a lot of trouble measuring 3D objects and is often not accurate.

I tried measuring a box that is 8"x8"x10"... it came out to 5"x7"x10". Only the edge that was facing the camera was measured correctly. I tried another box that was 10x14x22.. it came out as 7x10x19... totally off.

So a limitation to be aware of... 2d measuring seems to work ok but I would still use a actual measuring tape to be sure.
