I believe they fixed the steering on their latest models. Both the post-LCI M5 and the new X5MC I drove recently have a nice precise steering.

The issue isn't precision but rather a lack of tactile feedback. Early EPS BMW's did (and some still do) suffer from weird weighting and ratio's, but I haven't found a new BMW to have any feedback yet.
