For AW...I take a drop of OE paint, let it dry for a minute (not completely) then "sand" it down using Meguiar's Mirror Glaze #7 Show Car Glaze. I used this method on a previous AW car and you couldn't see the fix.
Metallic is difficult b/c the metallic tends to sink and make the spot darker. Though you could try doing it in two steps...fill the chip 3/4 of the way..."sand" down...top coat..."sand" down
I really wish BMW didn't stop selling the spray version of the touch-up paints. Though for AW my method is faster and easier.
