Depends on what your after. I've owned many BMW and Porsches and both (knock on wood) have been very reliable. I have an unmolested 997.1 TT and recently picked up a '11 C4S. My wife has an '11 M3 vert. Before the '11 C4S, I had a '08 Targa 4S w/10k miles - never had a single issue with car.

I never get tired of the styling of the 911 or driving it (feels extremely connected to the road). The 997.1TT motor is more durable/stronger than the 997.2TT motor. If its a late model 911 with warranty and/or with CPO, you'll be fine.

I'm sure the M4 will be nice but both of my 911's IMO are just a little more special than any of the BMWs we've own past/present.
