Noisy Sunroof
I have a 2007 550i which I purchased about six months ago. I didn't notice it at first but it seems like the cabin is a bit loud at highway speeds. The noise comes mainly from the sunroof area, especially when the sunshade is open. Never had this problem with my 335i coupe.
I'm not getting any water penetrating when it rains or from the car wash. The dealer thinks replacing the seal and reprogramming the sunroof might help -- at a cost of $400+. Anyone have any experience with something like this? Ideas? (and because everyone hates posts without pics I'm attaching an old favorite) |

BMW Parkview (here in Toronto) charge about $250 cdn (parts and labor) to change the seal for my 528.
I cheap out so I just slide the cover close and the noise is gone. |

Here's a quick status update:
Last week I took it into Bavarian Autowerks here in Kansas City. Tech went for a drive with me to hear it for himself. Along the way, he tried to move the glass around by hand to see if the alignment was off. He thought it might be a tad loud but not horrible. Also, from the best he could tell it was properly aligned. I'm going to leave it alone for the time being. Maybe I'm just imagining it's noisy. My wife's suggestion: the 7 series I test drove was quieter. Hmmm. Maybe if the stock market doesn't crap out again. Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone. |
