528ix Making Chirping Noise While Idle. 3 Different Diagnostic Results. Any Ideas? __
Sorry if this has been asked before but I've read through some of the threads and I'm not finding a clear/helpful answer.
A few months ago while I was idle, my 2009 528ix jerked a little and I heard a loud chirping noise but when I started to drive again, the noise went away. It happened again last week so I took the car to an auto shop that specializes in BMW, Mercedes, etc.; they said I needed a transfer case motor and 2 engine mounts ($1,600.00). It didn't sound right so I took it to a different shop that also specializes in BMW - they said the front crankshaft pulley was out of round a bit and only a BMW dealer can fix it with a special tool. I took it to a BMW dealer yesterday and they said they ran tests and did a visual inspection but found no faults anywhere; and when they test drove the car everything sounded fine. So that's 3 different diagnostic results from 3 different shops. Can anyone give me some advice on this - who is telling the truth? What could really be causing this and should I be concerned? |

Our old 528 made a chirping noise like a cricket. Turned out it was the little idler pulley. I think it cost $40-$50 and about 30 minutes of time to change it. Had to remove the airbox to get some more room.
