M5 Decisions

Hey I'm new to this site and love the E60 chassis (manual shift). Was wondering if anyone who has kept the car past the extended warranty can give me a summary of maintenance costs and issues for the M5.

Does it burn up oil quick when driven hard alot? Engine issues? Is it generally a high maintenance car?

I was thinking of getting one and keeping it as a secondary or tertiary ride. My garage guy has basically told me it's not good to hold on to past warranty.

Thanks
