2009 5 Series I Drive

I have an order for a new 2009 5 Series to be built this month. Does anyone know if the 2009 will have the new I Drive like the 3??

That's apparently the case. However, I also heard that mid-year or even later this year, they will put in the new iDrive. I'm guessing that will help sell MY09s that are still on the dealer's lot because by the time the F10 will have been announced/leaked more interest will be in buying the newest version.

But in the end, who really knows. If I were the OP and wasn't in a hurry for delivery, I'd wait until closer to November to place my order (if it's not yet in production, you can change it.)

Read about it here....and wait on your order...I think it will be a huge upgrade when it is available.

NNC: If you try building one, be sure to click on the info icon on the navigation option check box. Read the description that BMW gives you for navigation. Now do the same in the 3 series build your own section. Read that description. They are two different kind of nav systems for two different iDrives. As has been mentioned (J Spira from BMWCCA has the best info so far), it may show the new controller in the illustration (which are computer aided drawings) but it's definitely the old (non HDD) system. The new one is the CIC and the old one is still the CCC version.

Whether they change later on in the year, is anyone's guess. But I would hold off ordering until you see a MY09 5er in the flesh.

I would wait because the idrive is now a major component of the car not just some flashy toy, so think of it as if the car was set to get a change in its engines. You wouldn't buy the car knowing the engine was being changed in a few months...

I would wait. In fact, I would actually wait for the all new 5 series if possible. Get a used honda accord which is a great beater for a good price until the new 5 series is out
