This gets you around the WSI pay wall

On a side note the EPA have recently lowered the particulate emissions to a ridiculous level making dust a pollutants.

Following on with this, add heavier EV tyres and brakes to the list.

Volkswagen AG faces a pair of lawsuits in Germany over claims it was the battery in a Porsche electric vehicle that triggered the 2022 fire onboard a massive cargo ship that eventually sank with thousands of cars on board.
One of the suits was filed in a court in Stuttgart where VW’s Porsche unit is based. The case was brought by half a dozen plaintiffs, including Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd., the ship’s operator, and Allianz SE, one of the insurers of the vessel, according to a spokesman for the tribunal.
The Panama-flagged Felicity Ace caught fire near the Azores archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean two years ago and was left adrift after the crew was rescued. An internal email from VW’s U.S. operations at the time revealed there were 3,965 vehicles aboard the ship. The cargo ship’s loss could have cost the automaker at least $155 million, according to a risk-modeling company’s estimate.

I'm sure all the typical players will be by to say we were right and they were wrong
Chances are it was an EV Tay can which set it off.

Just a reminder of the conditions for Cobalt miners in Congo that mine 80% of world use. No worries, it keeps families together. I wonder what the ratio of dead miners is to one EV battery?

There are three ways that cobalt can cause poisoning. You can swallow it, breathe it into your lungs, or have it come in prolonged contact with your skin.

TIL that oil refining to make gasoline does not use cobalt to remove sulfur. LOL.

Good point. Double the children with delicate lungs to what it is with adults at a guess, something else the gub ment 'scientists' have been told not to audit.

Nice try:
Which industries are the largest consumers of cobalt?
The battery industry, aerospace industry, alloy production industry, and the ceramic and glass industry are among the largest consumers of cobalt.

Aware of that fact and agree with the data. Yet, you can't fill up your ICE without using cobalt.

The issues here are the quantity of cobalt but more importantly the use of recycling of cobalt in the automotive and petroleum refineries.
Use of hydroprocessing catalysts is common practice in petroleum refineries for decades and the recycling of the byproducts is very advanced.

I guess the cobalt for gasoline refining is ethically sourced.

How much cobalt use makes a person bad?

What if you drive an ICE and then get a cobalt based hip replacement. Do you only then have slightly poor sleep from the guilt?

If you drive a Tesla with lithium iron phosphate battery tech (1/2 of new Teslas) then you could then look down on anyone driving an ICE with flagrant moral superiority.

It's not just that Cobalt is poisonous, but where and how it's mined. No regulation and no employee protection. When I spent some time in a lead smelting plant in NY I had to wear a full respirator and body protection.

The way those workers are treated is worse than the way fighting pit bulls are treated. It's disgusting, but I'm sure Greta is happy.
