Good news, EV's are inflation proof.
Used EV Prices Plummet 32% As Tesla Price Cuts Impact Industry
According to a new iSeeCars study, EV prices have fallen a staggering 31.8% in the past year.

The company analyzed over 1.8 million used cars sold in February 2023 and 2024, which were between one and five years old. The results showed a “general softening of used car prices overall, but a dramatic drop in used electric vehicle prices.”
The biggest loser was the Chevrolet Bolt as prices are down 30.4% to an average of $17,981. Nissan’s Leaf wasn’t far behind as it fell 29.1% to lose $7,329 in value. Rounding out the podium was the Kia Niro EV, which fell 27.1% for a drop of $9,236.
Tesla was the hardest hit brand as their average used vehicle goes for $36,515. That’s down 28.9% from last year for a drop of $14,808. To put that into perspective, second place Alfa Romeo saw prices fall 13.3% for a decline of $4,412.

The Stelvio is still probably the best example of a pretty decent car hampered by the brands history, especially to non car people

If you bought an EV during covid, you are so screwed trying to get out of it now. Good news, ICE and EV pickups can bury a lot of negative equity right now. Finance managers selling a LOT of GAP insurance right now.

Hey EU, get ready for more Chinese EV dumping!

EV pricing war: XPeng to launch lower-cost brand
Mar. 18, 2024 5:03 AM ETXPeng Inc. (XPEV) Stock, XPNGF StockBYDDFBy: Meghavi Singh, SA News Editor

XPeng (NYSE:XPEV) is planning to launch a lower-cost electric vehicle brand, on the heels of rival BYD's (OTCPK:BYDDF) recent price cuts, as the pricing war among EV manufacturers rages on.
At the China EV 100 Forum in Beijing, XPeng (XPEV) CEO He Xiaopeng said the upcoming brand's models will be priced between 100,000 and 150,000 yuan (~$14,000–$21,000) and will be equipped with advanced driver assistance, Reuters reported.
XPeng's (XPEV) current smart EVs are priced at more than 200,000 yuan.
The EV maker's announcement comes as BYD (OTCPK:BYDDF) and other rivals have been implementing price cuts this year.
XPeng (XPEV) also recently launched the X9 multi-purpose vehicle, receiving over 5,000 firm orders.

Yes, we use faraday cases for our key fobs as well. Had my '23 X5 40i parked at a Montreal, Qc Hilton hotel for 4 nights last summer. Also used the Club on my steering wheel. Every night there was a car stolen including an older lexus parked right next to mine. My car was never touched, maybe lucky, maybe the club and the faraday case helped.

The club makes it easier for the crooks to choose easier pickings.

Yes, agreed. So does the built in BMW alarm system and the interior motion sensor alarms. Try to tow and the alarm goes off. Break a window and put your hand inside, alarm goes off.

If someone really wants your property they will get it, it's mostly about deterrent. If it's easier to steal another car then guess what.

Sorry but the best way to not have your car stolen is to drive a EV. Even the car thieves don't want those.

As a resident of Canada should you be leaving your keys on the hood?

The EV battery 'leap of faith'
March 14, 2024
New and evolving electric vehicle battery technology leaves uncertainties for early adopters about their longevity, warranty coverage and resale value – all things that could have even greater impact on the buyers of used EVs.
Charette says consumers should be concerned about whether the manufacturer is committed to support these batteries after the warranties run out. The cost of replacing an EV battery can run from $5,000 to upward of $15,000 depending on the brand and model of a vehicle.
In addition, as the cars age, at some point the cost of a new battery may exceed the vehicle’s value.
Third-party companies specializing in battery refurbishing are springing up, which may provide a cost-effective alternative to battery replacement.
The U.S. Department of Energy cites predictive modeling by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory indicating today’s batteries may last 12 to 15 years in moderate climates and eight to 12 years in extreme climates.
Fast charging technology may also shorten the life of an EV battery, which Charette says is disputed by some researchers. However, some manufacturers state that fast charging can rob approximately 10% of a battery’s life over eight years compared to slower alternatives.
He also notes carmakers suggest avoiding charging to 100% - keeping it above 20% and below 80% - to optimize battery longevity.
https://justthenews.com/nation/state...ery-leap-faith

Third-party battery refurbishing will be a nightmare and cause fires and failures. Battery packs are only as good as the weakest cell and all the cells will have increased internal resistance due to charge cycles.

Also, the battery makers are not making them serviceable. It is a literal pain in the ass for people to drop the pack and expose the batteries. How many times will you drop $2,000 to fix at ever increasing frequency?

I can understand the intent of the message but this disappoints me as that is the police dept. I spent over 30 years working for. Why not just leave your front door unlocked to save having to repair or replace it after the home invasion, why not just leave your keys on the front porch with gas money too. This was the wrong message and he's been trashed for it, the Toronto Police have since walked the message back but the reality is car theft in Toronto is up 600% and carjackings and home invasion are up 500%, response time in Toronto to 911 calls on average is 22 minutes. None of this is acceptable.

They break into my home, it will be the last breath and car they try to take. While most Americans think Canadians are not armed, many Canadians have hunting rifles and some have pistols.
