We share the planet but not always the same values.

Not everyone wants to do the laudable things you just shared. Some want to transport their broken idealisms to a new site where speech is free and the likelihood of a jack-booted thug kicking in your door at 3AM is relatively low.

Witness the enclaves of people from the same countries living in the same area. Now on the face of it, this is not a bad thing, but if they refuse to assimilate, refuse to learn the language, and refuse to do anything but translocate their culture into our country, it becomes a massive problem. What you have at this point is an area in the US that is now a de facto annex of Country X. Again...this is a massive problem.

I am putting on my flame suit right now.

If you read between the lines of what I said, I actually agree (at least in part). I was quite specific about my suggestion/thoughts relating to those who DO want to contribute/"assimilate".

I absolutely agree that anyone moving to the USA needs to learn to speak English if they don't already (or American, because let's be honest the languages have diverged enough at this point that it's often not the same). They also need to pay taxes where due, not be a burden to the system or society etc.

But for those who meet these criteria, the process is ridiculous as it is right now. That is all.

Also, the entire immigration system is broken right now. It's generally known that even those who are here legally aren't tracked, so when they overstay their visa waiver on a vacation or their conditional LPR status expires, they often can't be located/deported.

Illegal immigration (in the sense most think of it - people entering illegaly) is FAR from the only issue with the system.

The problem with immigration is that they make it too hard to do it legally.

Trust me, I know a little about this subject having done it the correct way.
Make it too hard to do legally?? Why should it be easy?
Why should it not? We share this planet with everyone else on it.

Completely agree that some immigration is a good thing. But immigrants mostly don't understand America - they don't understand our government or our principles. Which they can certainly learn. But many do not - they simply try to re-create the place they came from, and suck off the benefits of this country and bitch about equality. It cracks me up every time I see a Foreign flag hanging from someone's rearview mirror - as if that place is "worthy."

Most people I see do that are Americans but have family in European countries at least of the friends I know who do stuff like that. I don't really see the problem with it.

Or maybe they assume my car is the same since I have a flag on mine, in which case they'd be an idiot since its a scuba flag since I'm a diver.

Our Govt with a 2 party system is the issue. Immigration is only a piece of the pie right now.

Honestly, Hillary is the establishment and proven not honest - she should not even be in the picture. Bernie is off his rocker with a scary demographic surging behind him. I believe he has nice intentions though. But, do his voters understand what his proposals will do to our country? Pure devastation after the last 7 years. That is what scares me more than Trump.

The real question is how do we unite our country again - never has it been so divided and proof the 7 year experiment has ultimately failed.

Not in this country. Too many dumb people who demand their voice to be heard.

There are seriously some really stupid people in this country that are allowed to vote.

Not sure if this applies to everyone, but when it comes to politics, everyone is suddenly an expert on everything.

I've gotten into some political discussions and when it comes to economics and what not I can hold my own since that's my background but then they have these opinions on foreign affairs and what to do with ISIS and Russia, at which point I'm honest, I don't fucking know what we should do.

But I feel like with politics, no one wants to admit that they don't know so everyone becomes an "expert" in an area where they, in reality, have not a single clue about.

Kind of like the comments I read from the left about Google's CEO being awarded $200mm in shares and how that money could've been used to help other employees but instead it all went to the CEO. Amusing since they obviously can't discern the difference between stock options and actual wages, but that's how it is. Everyone is an expert.

Why? Are you not proud of your country of birth?

Completely agree - I will never understand why people have to pick a politician because "they're Republican" or "they're Democrats" - surely we should pick the person who appeals to us most and whose policies align most closely with our own beliefs?

While that's true, I strongly believe that every person should vote. Personally, I'd make it a legal requirement.

I fucking hate that question. Oh you're this or you're that..., mother fucker, I'm going to vote for whomever I feel is fitting for the position and has similar ideologies as myself.

I agree 100%. He resonates because he comes across real, however brash, arrogant and/or crass the message. People know what they are getting with Trump; he's the devil we know. He speaks his mind, and I'm rather curious to see how much change he could effect if he were in office. One thing is certain, if he were to become President, he'd have no problem calling out those in the political game who are trying to stalemate his efforts.

Well the important thing is that a majority of Republicans aren't voting for him. So we will see as more candidates quit, where the supporters will go. I don't think a majority would go to Trump.

For lots (i hope) it's anybody else but Trump.

But then again they are Republicans...

I'm curious as to how long you have been living in the states. Two off my poker buddies are from London. They've both been in Dallas for over 15 years and own successful small businesses.
Both go on and on about "it's about time someone like Trump slaps the bitters out of Washington".

An Iranian fella I know was telling me the same message. His uncle went back to Iran last year. He was a teacher and said it's not like it was here 20 years ago and left.

There are different opinions of what's right and what's wrong here.

Of course there are different opinions, otherwise there'd be no need for an election

I've lived here for around 3 years but have been coming here for significant amounts of time for around 7-8 years.

Well, the winner will be the winner. I'll move forward no matter whom it is.

Hope you're enjoying Dallas!
My buddies love it here and only return to London every several years or so.
I'm thinking both may be mad because they love the summer weather. They're nuts.

Haha.. it's funny, when I was moving everyone was "envious".. honestly it's no better or worse, just different and I'm enjoying it so far.

The summers here are brutal though.

Here is how I see this right now-

The free loaders and obamaites will vote for Bernie.

Crazy people, criminals and career politicians people will vote for Hilary.

People who want the America of yesteryear and a true shakeup as well as people who are sick and tired of this country becoming too pc / pussified will vote for Trump.

I have zero shame in belonging to the last category... zero... I have nothing against anyone else, I do have something against commies, weakleaders and media spin.
