I know someone who went down to the docks to collect his Tes after paying for it in full, he's after the retirement age and still works, also has the comfort of home charging on his driveway. I think he did the deal all on line.

The desperation is getting comical, if not outright absurd.
"Montauk, Fishers Island in New York, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket in Massachusetts will now be classified as “low-income” and eligible for EV charger subsidies" NOTHING will surprise me as this crew winds their time up.

Some good news to start the day.
China EVs: lithium producers Ganfeng, Tianqi issue profit warnings, blame price plunge for battery material as stocks sink 31 Jan, 2024 The two producers of the metal that powers EV batteries expect 2023 net profit to decline by as much as 80 per cent Ganfeng shares dropped 5 per cent and Tianqi declined 5.9 per cent on Wednesday in Hong Kong “Due to the cyclical [nature] of the lithium industry and the growth rate of [end-user] demand slowing down, [there was] a significant decrease in the price of lithium-salt products,” Ganfeng said in its filing to Hong Kong’s bourse. “In 2024, we believe the focus will be on the supply side,” said Daiwa’s analysts in the report. “De-capacity is the name of the game.” https://www.scmp.com/business/commod...ttery-material The spirit of the age media can lie all they want but the financial news can generally be trusted to tell the facts. Money flows to where it profitable. Last edited by Car-Addicted; 02-01-2024 at 08:27 AM.. Reason: Added demand chart |

Tapping the Brakes on Electric Vehicles Jan 29 2024 Couple highlights Facts and context matter. The world in 2023 saw, according to NOAA, a new peak in global CO2 emissions. The claimed 122 megatons cut by EVs sounds big, but it amounts to only 0.03 percent of global emissions. For context, oil-burning war-machines in Ukraine are adding at least that much CO2 to the atmosphere yearly. The problem is that you can’t measure an EV’s CO2 emissions. The CO2 emissions arising from building an EV before it gets driven revolve around a simple fact: a typical EV battery weighs about 1,000 pounds. That half-ton battery is made from a wide range of minerals, including copper, nickel, aluminum, graphite, and lithium. Accessing those minerals requires digging up and processing some 250 tons of earth per vehicle. All that mining, processing, and refining uses hydrocarbons and emits CO2. The critical fact found in the technical literature is that those upstream emissions vary by 300 percent or more, depending on where and when materials are mined and processed. At the higher end of known ranges, upstream battery emissions can wipe out emissions avoided by not driving a gasoline car. But the rate of EV adoption will slow long before there’s a battery-dominated future because, again, we’ll run out of money, copper, and political tolerance for enriching other nations—especially China, where 50 percent to 90 percent of the critical materials are now produced and will be for years yet, no matter how lawmakers rewrite the sourcing regulations. And if proposed EPA rules for an EV-dominated future do become law, count on millions of very unhappy consumers, otherwise known as voters. https://www.city-journal.org/article...ctric-vehicles Thank you eugenebmw for the original post. |

I've got a handful of filled speech balloons for the young one looking at the camera... Bet he'd like to come to our horribly racist and unjust country. We are overrun with oblivious ninnies.

I don't have a chemistry degree. Point me out if I am wrong.
EV battery raw materials The primary materials that make up an EV battery are lithium, manganese, and cobalt. A report by Nature estimates that a typical EV battery uses about 8 kilograms of lithium, 14 kilograms of cobalt, and 20 kilograms of manganese. Let’s explore below each material’s mining process and its environmental impact. Lithium-ion Lithium is mainly produced from salt flats or underground brine reservoirs, with most of the production concentrated in South America (namely Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile) and China. Extracting lithium from the brine is fairly straightforward and is done by evaporating the water to leave behind a lithium-rich solution. Lithium mining’s environmental impact Because of this evaporation process, lithium mining uses a large amount of groundwater that gets lost in the process. This can deprive local communities of drinking water and harms farming by reducing the water available for irrigation – especially given that most of the world’s lithium is extracted in arid regions with scarce water supplies in the first place. On top of that, the remaining liquid left after lithium is extracted can contain toxic or radioactive elements and needs to be cleaned and stored before it can be released. Cobalt Besides lithium, cobalt is an often-cited culprit in EV batteries’ environmental and social impact. Cobalt is currently one of the main components of an EV battery’s cells. Cobalt mining Cobalt is produced as a byproduct of copper and nickel mining but can also be mined directly, with Australia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) being the main producers. Cobalt is perhaps one of the most problematic materials used in electric vehicles, both environmentally and socially. Cobalt mines produce toxic residues that can leach into the environment, poisoning groundwater and harming nearby communities. Additionally, smelting cobalt ore produces fumes with a high concentration of sulfur oxide and other air pollutants. On top of their environmental impact, cobalt mines also raise labor concerns. With little formal regulation and oversight, workers in cobalt mines are often underpaid and lack adequate protective equipment, tools, and training. These dangerous conditions create problematic labor practices, which can lead to injury or even death. Question: Is it ok to kill or injury people to save the world? Is it ok to kill or injury people to make other people lives better? |

If we were really interested in the lives of children maybe the 73 million induced abortions or 200,000 abortions per day world wide (WHO) would matter but it doesn't, does it. As long as people can hum along in their EV's or worry about who Taylor Swift is dating we will all be fine.
