2008 E60 Side Impact Crash Test by IIHS

What's wrong with recent BMW models? First it's the E93 (3 Series Convertible) that is reported to have "Marginal" protection for side impact as tested by IIHS. Now, it's the 2008 5 Series that is gaining another "Marginal" rating for side impact? The E93's marginal results with the side impact can be explained by the lower level of protection that can be provided in a convertible but the E60 is a luxury sedan that should not have the same constraints as the convertible. BMW was once the leader in Crash test results. They were one of the first ones to gain good ratings while other manufacturers are still getting poor results. Now it seems like other manufactures have caught up while BMW itself is doing worse in recent tests.
